A Reprieve for Yoga Teacher Training Programs

In July of last year we reported that several states were attempting to regulate yoga teacher training programs. (Read the post here.)

Today, I New York State said "NO" to such efforts. Governor David Patterson exempted yoga teacher training programs from state regulations overseeing vocational training programs.

Why do we care?

1. We support yoga as an athletic-minded activity and we love that there are Bikram and CorePower studios across the country. These "corporate" style studios allow practitioners to continue their practice even when away from home. (Our Work Out recommendations include yoga studios!)

2. Extra fees and expenses would likely force studios to raise class fees and/or lead to studio closures. We want more yoga not less.
