This Courtyard not only is the closest hotel to San Jose's burgeoning airport, it is also the nearest accommodation to Club One's Skyport Plaza health club (across the street). Thus, athletic-minded guests can choose between a complimentary quick sweat on-site, two high-end Life Fitness treadmills, one Life Fitness elliptical and a 5-50 lbs. dumbbell set, or a $20 complete workout off-site. Courtyard's website boasts of its "state-of-the-art" gym, but its three machines hardly earn that claim in our book. Serious sweat geeks will want to take advantage of the discounted access offered at Club One, which is a relatively small club but has everything except a pool.

No other features of this property wowed or disappointed us. It's a very standard Courtyard hotel: three stories, internal corridors, complimentary high-speed internet access (wired in the rooms/wireless in lobby), upgraded bedding and typical floorplans. Courtyard does not offer free breakfasts as many chains do. Still, this is one of the best stay and play options for travelers seeking proximity to the airport and a convenient workout experience.

Runners can pick up the Guadalupe River Trail within a half-mile of the hotel's front door and head north or south for a few traffic and stoplight-free miles, we recommend going north.

Swimmers closest option is 24 Hour Fitness Super Sport which houses a 4-lane, 25-yard indoor lapper ($20/day admission; 5-minute drive).
