When we first visited this property more than a year ago, it did not make our recommended list due to a "wimpy" hotel gym. The workout space was appealing, with large windows overlooking the pool and plenty of space, but the equipment inside was old and in need of replacement. Fortunately, as part of the Hilton/Precor partnership, that deficiency has been rectified. Now, athletic-minded guests can look forward to the same impressive room ambiance AND top notch equipment to match. Choose among three treadmills, two ellipticals, an upright bike and a recumbent bike for your heart pumping needs. All have personal viewing screens attached. Strength sessions also are possible with a 5-50 lbs. dumbbell set or a weight pulley system. Headphones are provided.
Hilton's outdoor pool is too short for any meaningful lapping, so swimmers should walk fifteen minutes to SJSU ($5) or drive ten minutes to the San Jose Athletic Club (Hilton guests receive discounted access at $15).
In addition to the Precor treadmills, joggers also should consider an outdoor jaunt along the Guadalupe River Trail. Pick it up 100 yards from the front door and head north. Or, if you want to run a few intervals, SJSU's 400-meter track is available, we would recommend driving there as the neighborhood between it and the Hilton becomes a bit sketchy (the track is located a couple miles south of SJSU's main campus and pool).
As we remembered from our last visit, the rest of this highrise property satisfies. Guest rooms are somewhat small, but Hilton's Serenity Beds and the spectacular views will quickly divert your attention to more pleasant thoughts. High speed internet access is available for a fee ($10) and the entire hotel is smoke free.
