Silver Comet Trail - Smyrna

Mavell Road Trailhead
Atlanta, GA

Thirteen miles northwest of Atlanta, this mostly flat, paved path that stretches for 37+ miles is a popular workout location for runners, cyclists, inline skaters and more. The path begins in the city of Smyrna at Mavell Road near South Cobb DriveĀ and meanders to the Alabama state line. These are the best directions we could find:

  1. Take I-285 to exit number 15-South Cobb Drive. South Cobb Drive exit is near mile marker 14 on I-285.
  2. Go to mile marker 2.5 on South Cobb Drive.
  3. Turn left on Cooper Lake Road and pass a small lake on the right.
  4. Turn left on Mavell Road (Nickajack Elementary). Mavell Road dead-ends into the Silver Comet parking lot at the trail's starting point.

Miles are marked along the path. Toilets and water located at Mavell Rd., Concord Rd., Floyd Rd., Hiram, Paulding Chamber of Commerce, Rambo, Coonts Lake and Van Wert.

The farther west you travel, the quieter it gets. A wildlife refuge, Pumpkin Vine Creek Trestle and Brushy Mountain tunnel are scenic spots along the way.
