Starting in late May, this outfitter offers a number of trips for beginners and more advanced paddlers. They will provide the paddle, wetsuit, and even jackets, but it's BYOL--bring your own lunch. Examples of trips include the Boston Waterfront, Ocean Skills, Boston Harbor Outer Islands and Marblehead Harbor Intro. Trips are rated from 1 to 3. There's also a moonlight canoe tour and a Boston BBQ tour. The company has four rental locations: Cambridge (Kendall Square), Boston, Newton and Waltham.

1. Newton Boathouse: 2401 Commonwealth Ave. (Route 30--Exit 24) Newton Boathouse is open 7 days a week and offers hourly rentals, on-water demos and instruction programs.
2. Boston: 1071 Soldier's Field Rd in Allston/Brighton. Located in the Artesani Park in the green roofed kiosk along the bike path just upstream of the Eliot Bridge. You can reach the boat house on foot from Harvard Square--or by the #86 bus. The Boston location is only open Thurs-Sunday. Check the website or call them to get more info.
