First and foremost, get a reservation. Locals contend that this place is the best restaurant in the state of Colorado. The Italian inspired menu (specifically the food of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, a sub-alpine region of northeast Italy) changes seasonally and favors fresh, local and organic ingredients. It's gourmet but not fussy. There is plenty to like on this menu and the ambiance too is welcoming. Interesting wall treatments, big windows, stylish furnishings, white linens, and rustic beams across the high ceiling create a pleasing setting. We also like that there is a bar that seats 6 -- perfect for those dining alone.
Many favor the fixed price (about $66) four course menu that includes one antipasti, primi, secondi and dolci. There are four to five choices for each "category". Antipasti selections may include a chilled soup, heirloom tomato salad, farm veggie salad, or grilled meat with roasted vegetables and greens. Primi may be russet potato gnocchi, homemade pasta with local farm veggies, or ravioli with broccoli, onions and parmesan. Secondi (entrées) may include grilled swordfish with vegetables, pan roasted quail over polenta, pork leg with fingerling potatoes and a huckleberry sauce, or grilled skirt steak with Italian style seasonings.
