US National Whitewater Center
While this outdoor recreation facility is a good distance from downtown (about 20 miles), we think athletic-minded travelers will find it well worth the drive.
It is located on the banks of the Catawba River and allows visitors to "play all day" by indulging in all kinds of activities: hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, eco-caching, climbing, and last but not least white water rafting on the world's largest man-made re-circulating river.
