The Chicago outpost of this luxury chain commands a stellar location for shopping, dining and other Windy City fun. The 343 room hotel sits atop an upscale shopping mall on Michigan Avenue and occupies the 32nd through 46th floors. The marble lobby and common areas are opulent with crystal chandeliers, European design and other elegant Old World finishes. This property is a year removed from a five-year, multimillion-dollar renovation, targeting a more contemporary demographic.

Guestrooms range in size from a cozy 364 square feet to a more spacious 570. For those not minding any travel budget, Four Seasons' suites top out at an impressive 2,300 square feet and come with 1 to 3 bedrooms. All rooms have either city or lake views, but the higher floors offer much more dramatic scenery (and shelter from street noise). No matter the floor plan, all rooms offer complimentary high-speed internet access, thick terry bathrobes and twice daily housekeeping service. Other notable amenities include around the clock room service, concierge and business services. Four Seasons' service is always second to none.

While the indoor, Roman style pool with its glass domed ceiling and abundant natural light is unique, its mere 15-meter length will hardly satisfy lappers. Water aerobics is an option, though.

Sweat fiends fare much better in the hotel's fitness center which is part of the 8,000 square foot spa facility. Along with ellipticals, treads, and bikes, there are over a half dozen weight stations along with free weights and dumbbells. Complimentary headphones, juice and fruit are other welcome perks. And, if you happen to have time for pampering, the full service spa earns rave reviews.

Swimmers' best option (and those seeking a more traditional health club experience) is to have the concierge call over to the East Bank Club to set up a guest visit. A $25 fee will apply. More convenient is Equinox Fitness in the 900 N. Michigan building ($30/day), but the pool(s) are more desirable at East Bank, especially during warmer months when the outdoor rooftop lapper is open. Still, if convenience is more important to you, head to Equinox with confidence.
