Attached to the Merchandise Mart via skybridge, this Holiday Inn is just across the river from Chicago's business "Loop" and about 8 blocks from Michigan Avenue's shops and attractions. Taxis are abundant, so shoppers shouldn't fret the 1-mile distance from Magnificent Mile. A $5 Uber ride will get you there in a jiffy.
Although no Holiday Inn showers guests with lavish amenities or loads of perks, this one garners our Gold due to its reasonable rates, upscale and inviting accommodations, complimentary WiFi and across the street locale from one of the country's largest and best fitness centers, East Bank Club. There is also a health club right at the Mart, River North Gym. Travelers have choices!!
If you're in a hurry and need a quick cardio hit, Holiday's 16th floor exercise room may suffice. Its mostly Life Fitness series cardio machines are in good shape. However, those with a strength routine or lap swim in mind may not be satisfied. But check it out. The on-site pool is a 17-yard shorty (bottom stripes, but no floating lines), and the multi-exercise weight unit should be replaced.
To satiate any, and we mean any, exercise craving, walk 3 minutes to the unbelievable East Bank Club, since Holiday Inn is the closest hotel to EBC. Admission is steep at $25/day ($12.50 IHRSA), (River North is $20.), but consider it your personal fitness amusement park. You have to see the place to believe it!
