Lula Café has been a resident of the Logan Square neighborhood for over 15 years. Now this part of Chicago is a big draw with its myriad restaurants and bars. We like Lula for its fabulous food, inviting décor and the fact that breakfast is also offered! High ceilings, exposed ductwork, a long community table, rustic wood floors, and cool art create a cozy feel. It feels local versus trendy. There are two dining areas and an outdoor patio. Lula succeeds in being casual, simple yet sophisticated.
No matter when you dine here, there are options for varying appetites. On Mondays only there is a fixed price, 3 course, "farm dinner." Highlights from a recent dinner menu include “summer veggie bowl”, sweet corn soup, dry aged sirloin, George’s Bank scallops, cherry tomato and octopus salad, an Asian inspired gnocchi, and a 6-course vegetarian tasting menu. It's upscale and gourmet in terms of the ingredients and presentation.
The weekday breakfast menu is fairly small but covers the sweet, savory and vegetarian bases with oatmeal, eggs, trout scramble, breakfast burrito, lox plate, tofu and veggie scramble, buttermilk pancakes and brioche French toast. It’s the weekend brunch that has people lining up. The menu expands to include reveultos with white asparagus, crawfish, aged gouda, and fingerling potatoes, praline bread pudding French toast, and “The Royale”, a roast beef sandwich with fried and a fried egg. The "Cafe Menu" is offered all day and recent selections included a spinach and apple salad, vegetable quesadilla, chilled peanut satay noodles, spaghetti, a BLT and a chickpea tagine.
