We like recommending venues that encourage athletic-minded travelers to get outside the touristy zones and Mana Food Bar is one of these places. Located in hip and cool Wicker Park, the vegetarian eatery is gourmet yet down to earth. And with a small plate approach, diners can share, taste and explore. The downside is that the contemporary and sleek space is on the small side. However, the happy hour is very budget-friendly, and you can get the food to-go.
Carnivores and vegetarians alike rave about the menu and food. There are two menu sections: "Cold" and "Hot". Each section offers 10-12 choices and most dishes come in "small" or "large". Recent picks from the “cold” section include panzanella, spinach and pear salad, avocado and arugula, chilled sesame noodles in a spicy sauce, caponata and a raw vegetable maki. Tofu can be added to any dish. Hot selections may include bi bim bop, seared tofu with shiitake mushrooms, gyoza, spanakopita, tamales and the famous “mana slider”, a brown rice and mushroom burger with spicy mayo. And there are sides, an athletic-minded menu favorite. Black beans, lentils, polenta, cabbage slaw, seared collared greens and brown rice can all be added to your meal.
