This relatively short trail heads through the National Forest just north of Woodland Park. The path follows a winding stream through a scenic valley while providing excellent views of Woodland Park and Pikes Peak. Be sure to stick to the most obvious route along the creek. After the highest point, the trail will change from a smooth-terrain single track to a double track that returns West along a power-line service road. The road is closed to vehicles. The last uphill section of the route is steep but short. After an elevation gain of about 900 feet, it's all downhill. Lovell Gulch is easily accessible from the city and still provides the escape of the Colorado wilderness. A popular route for horses and their owners too.
Note: Despite the proximity to the city, remember you are in the wilderness. Take all necessary safety and weather precautions. Total Distance = 5 miles (average hike time = 2.5 hours)
