Do not let the Fairmont's location confuse you. Despite an address on Akard in the 1700's, it truly is across the street from the 601 N. Akard YMCA. You can imagine our surprise when, after touring the Y and gearing up for the "11 block" walk to the Fairmont, the hotel magically appeared! We do not have a logical explanation, but we're not complaining. The Arts District location means that fun happenings are a short walk away.
The Fairmont brand is known for excellent service and amenities. And the service does shine. All 545 rooms are attractive in that elegant, old school sort of way. Internet costs extra, coffee maker is provided as well as a stocked mini bar. Suites are much more contemporary in style and vibe. We would consider paying for an upgrade if possible.
The primary reason this Fairmont is recommended is two-fold. Their onsite gym on the lower level (read no natural light) is well stocked. More important, Fairmont's aforementioned location across from the YMCA makes its full-service facility a convenient option for Fairmont guests.
Note: Runners should consider our Katy Trail route for an outdoor jog.
