This place must be the largest health club in Michigan. Emphasizing racquet sports, the facility's 225,000 square feet of workout bliss boasts 13 tennis courts, a number of racquetball courts and a full service restaurant and bar. But those seeking a cardio sweat, strength routine or lap swim, are not the least slighted.
Over 20 treadmills, 12 ellipticals and 12 bikes pack the arena-like fitness floor. Life Fitness is the brand of choice, which most fitness fans, including us, value. In addition, the club hosts a variety of aerobic and strength classes and houses separate yoga and spin studios.
Swimmers will not be overly excited by Franklin's lap option. At 18 meters it's a little short of our preferred distance of 25 yards, but floating lines and bottom stripes lead the way. And we did find a full assortment of toys and a pace clock on deck. During summer, the liquid options significantly improve with Franklin's outdoor 25-meter lapper. Usually, 3 lanes are set up with floating lines and bottom stripes, but call to ensure a water aerobics class isn't occupying the entire pool.
Note: Access to non-members is slightly steep at $25.
