We always appreciate discovering a truly local restaurant when we travel, even if it's not all that "healthy." El Rincon de Cortez's parking lot is full during breakfast and lunch hours for good reason, their Mexican food is inexpensive and flavorful. The large menu offers mostly traditional dishes (e.g., burritos, chilaquiles, enchiladas, tacos) along with a few specialty meals. The 60-ish table dining area is "no frills" with tile floors and simple tables/chairs, but the staff is welcoming and the customers friendly.
Mexican favorites are on the menu including chicken flautas, enchiladas, huevos rancheros, fajitas etc. For those looking to keep it light, order one of the chicken dishes and request it grilled with peppers and onions (low oil). At breakfast, your best bet is to combine some of the sides with a special order of egg whites and salsa!
