During our tour of downtown Frankfurt's hotels, we were becoming despondent after touring a string of sub-par properties. Beyond Hilton, we were struggling to find another hotel that had a legitimate on-site gym and appealing accommodations to boot. Thankfully, we found that here. Although it can't match Hilton (far from it), Westin presents a worthy hotel option for athletic-minded travelers.
The 6th floor fitness facility is open 24/7 and attended during the day. Inside, sparkling Life Fitness cardio and strength apparatus line the tastefully decorated workout space. Some of the machines, treadmills especially, are organized somewhat close to one another but we guess that all four are rarely occupied. A 2-25 kilogram (~5 to 50 lbs.) dumbbell set and 6 separate weight stations offer an appealing variety of muscle-pumping exercises too.
Westin's indoor pool is conducive to water-aerobic exercises, but not serious lap swimming. Too short. Runners should consult the concierge for custom route maps.
Westin Grand will keep you smiling beyond your sweat as well. All 371 rooms are outfitted with the brand's trademark "Heavenly" beds and showers, 32-inch flat screen televisions, and sub-floor heating in the marble baths. Décor is simple, elegant and contemporary, cream tones, crisp white bedding and large windows. We recommend booking a "Deluxe" room that overlooks the courtyard to ensure an overnight without street noise. 24/7 room service is an added perk for those working late. Before leaving, consider rewarding yourself with a massage on the 6th floor.
