Cherokee Park

This beautiful urban 410 acre park offers all sorts of active pursuits! With its rolling hills, myriad paths, wooded trails, and open meadows, no wonder that locals call it “runner heaven”. Cyclists love it too.

The park’s main feature is the 2.4 mile loop with separate lanes for traffic and recreational users.  Also here:  9-hole golf course, fishing, hiking trails, basketball courts, horseshoe pit, picnic areas, playground, tennis courts and in the winter a decent sledding hill!

Churchill Downs

Yes, the Kentucky Derby is held here every May. But, other races are run on this infamous track through most of the spring and fall. It's not far from downtown Louisville either, so check it out. General admission is $3 and kids 12 and under are free.

Louisville Slugger Museum

For the baseball fan, come here and see how the major league bats are made and view some of the most famous bats ever used. Tours run around 90 minutes and cost $14 for adults, $8 for kids 6-12 and free for kids 5 and under.

Louisville Waterfront Park

In the midst of the urban rush, this 85-acre strip of land is ideal for a day in the park. There are multiple playgrounds, large grassy areas for Frisbee and picnics, and walking trails along the Ohio River. Throughout the year, Waterfront hosts a multitude of events, such as shows in the amphitheater, heritage walks, exercise boot camps, and fundraising/awareness races. Waterfront is home to the Mayor’s Mile Program, a series of jogging circuits to encourage exercise in the city. Choose from the one, two, or three-mile routes.
