Jogging in Manchester is a difficult task. Downtown's density, auto traffic and numerous traffic signals (not to mention the reverse traffic flow for Americans) create a plethora of problems for those in search of a mindless, "zone-out" run. A few canals meander through the city, but we understand that safety can be a concern. One option (and it's not great) may be to run on the wide sidewalks that parallel Brook and Upper Brook Streets heading southwest from downtown, bordering the University of Manchester and the Manchester Royal Infirmary. Traffic signals will break your stride, but you can create a loop by turning left on Dickenson Road and heading back to downtown along Stockport Rd. which turns into Downing Street. Approx. 4-5 mile loop.
