We always enjoy walking into these community centers because the staffs are so polite and helpful. This particular facility is no exception. Housed in a multi-level building since 1909, the Fogelman YMCA underwent a $4.5 million interior overhaul in 1989. In Dember of 2012, they replaced all the equipment on the fitness floor with new Technogym pieces. The Fogelman Y provides comfort with its well-tailored selection of high-level machines and nurturing lap pool.
Indicative of the Y's ongoing equipment replacement process, the fitness area mixes old and new. Technogym and Free Motion pieces are in one "circuit" section, with a more classic free weight and bench section separated unto themself. A spinning studio, with 18 Technogym spin bikes, as well as room for two TRX trainers, boxing bags, as well as a pair of fitness ropes, will meet your high-intensity training needs. Windows throughout the facility afford plenty of sunlight during the day, and a few even overlook the AAA baseball park, so game watching calorie burning is a distinct possibility.
The pool received a welcome re-paint and swimmers should approve. Floating lane lines, bottom stripes, equipment, and a pace clock are all here. And the water temperature was fine during our water frolic.
Admission fees will vary depending on the hotel you select. Ten bucks is the norm, but Holiday Inn Select, Doubletree, and Hampton Inn all receive a $3 discount. Bring cash, your room key and an ID. Towels are provided and the locker rooms/showers are adequate for a simple clean-up.
