For those needing to set up a home base on the city's north-side, this Marriott is your best bet. Somewhat far from Munich's action, we would only stay in this neighborhood if we had business in the immediate area brought us to town, though nearby subway stops whisk passengers to the city's heart in a few minutes. Plan on utilizing the subway for sightseeing, restaurant meals and/or nightlife, because the surrounding area lacks options.
Marriott's entrance and property's front side are located on a quiet, tree-lined, residential road. However, a busy, highway-like street runs 100 meters behind the hotel, so request a south-facing room for more peaceful zzz's. A mid-rise structure, Marriott's 348 rooms are dispersed among seven floors. All guest quarters have been recently renovated to include luxurious bedding/linens, flatscreen televisions and stylish furniture. Wireless internet access is available in the hotel's common areas but only wired is supplied in the rooms ($fee applies).
Guests can follow their healthy lifestyles with ease at Marriott's complimentary HIMAPHAN spa and health club. The lower level gym is rather dark, but the new equipment shines and encourages working out. We counted 4 Life Fitness treadmills, 3 ellipticals, 1 upright bike, 1 recumbent bike, and a Lemond spin bike. Free weights are missing, but handheld dumbbells are provided (up to 20kgs.).
Marriott's swimming pool, while nice to look at, will not serve lap swimmers, it's too short. During the summer months, those guests looking to accrue some wet yardage can walk 5 minutes to the Ungerbad Recreation Center. Inside this outdoor facility there are a couple long outdoor pools, but don't get too excited as there are no floating lane lines nor bottom stripes to guide swimmers to and fro. Still, for€4.10, it's quite a deal. Cruiser bike rentals are available at the hotel as well for €16/day. Inquire at the front desk.
