This hotel is big. Really big. Beyond Las Vegas, travelers don't typically encounter too many 2,000-room hotel properties and this 49-floor heavyweight tops out at 1,914 guest rooms plus 57 suites. Suffice to say, if you prefer a boutique accommodation and cozy confines, look elsewhere. If you don't mind the largesse, or if business brings you to the Marquis, count on a fabulous workout experience. Another potential benefit is the proximity to Times Square's action and the Theater District.

The rooms take on a corporate flair with modern furnishings and business-friendly layouts. We're big fans of the Marriott "Revive" beds with soft, 300 thread count sheets and down duvets. Wired and wireless high-speed internet access is available and all rooms have coffee makers, high definition TVs and walk-in showers. Higher floor rooms have beautiful city views and a select number of quarters are offered with an exercise machine inside, usually a treadmill or bike. Most athletic-minded travelers will want to have some fun in Marriott's 23rd floor fitness behemoth.

This hotel gym may be one of the 10 largest in the U.S. From afar it has a greenhouse-like appearance with a rounded glass ceiling and floor to ceiling glass walls that provide an open/airy feel. Inside, Marriott stocks many, and we do mean many, pieces of equipment. Cardio machines are positioned along the outer glass walls, facing the hotel's inner-core atrium on one side and the view overlooking Times Square on the other. Plenty of high quality bikes, treads, and strength machines are on board. The gym even provides free weights and a Smith machine for bench press and squat exercises, along with an impressive array of dumbbells. Headphones are provided to listen to the attached plasma cardio screens, or if you're in the mood to jam, the gym's sound system rocks out.

Despite all of the space, Marriott Marquis leaves lap swimmers dry. To get lapping done, guests will have to consider nearby off-site options, none of which is all that fantastic in this busy part of town.

Runners and walkers should definitely keep Central Park's paths in mind.
