A mile or two from Dolphin and Swan, Coronado Springs is Disney's Spanish-Mexican-American Southwest themed resort. Be prepared to walk a lot, and we don't mean around the theme parks. This massive accommodation is spread over serious acreage, ambling from guest quarters to lobby can easily take 5 minutes. Coronado's 1,921 rooms surround the scenic, but un-swimmable, Lago Dorado (Lake of Gold). The tidy and colorful accommodations provide a welcome budget balance to Disney's not so magical steep prices.
Coronado's workout option is notable. Slightly larger than a typical hotel room, this gym stocks an ample supply of high-end strength and cardio equipment. Weights are definitely the highlight with more than 800 pounds of free plates, a useful dumbbell set and a large assortment of stack-loaded stations. About half of the endurance apparatus are newer machines including 4400 and 4600 series StairMaster Free Climbers, 2 treadmills and 1 recumbent bike. Cyclists, no upright bikes are on-site, so pedal pushing is a reclined activity only.
Adjacent to the fitness center, Coronado provides a lap pool that may work for many swimmers. We could not get accurate length information from the hotel, but our eagle eyes estimated it at about 25-meters (one wall is angled). Although no floating lines are present, 3 lanes are marked by stripes on the pool's bottom, so, lapping is possible. For a more legitimate rectangle, drive 3 minutes to Dolphin.
