One of Orlando's esteemed private schools, Lake Highland possesses excellent athletic facilities. The trick is trying to figure out if and when you can get in or on them. Unfortunately, the aquatics department is terrible at returning phone calls, so we were unable to confirm the cost to swim. Nevertheless, a fantastic 50-meter pool with floating lines and bottom stripes sits in front of the school's main entrance, you can't miss it. We did notice flyers with lap swim times on a table during our tour, but when we discussed with school administration whether the facility was open to the public, they told us no. Our thought is that they just don't want it broadcast to millions that this facility is available. We won't tell (wink, wink). The pool is good enough even for the Australian Olympic team who trained there before a meet.
The 1/4-mile track is a great intervals venue for joggers and appears to be a little easier to get on. Both of these facilities are less than a half-mile from the nearby Courtyard hotel and their location can be seen on our "Orlando Downtown" running route map. Note: To play it safe with a workout here (especially since it's a school), take a drive over before your planned workout to verify hours etc. If you can't participate here, just drive a mile to the fantastic YMCA (see our listing).
