Located across a small lake from one another, these Starwood mega-hotels (over 750 rooms each) commingle their operations despite different branding (Swan is Westin and Dolphin is Sheraton). Choose either to enjoy the best workout options Disney offers.
You are in Magic Kingdom Land so expect festive colors and creative designs in whimsical quarters. Both the Swan and the Dolphin were completely refurbished in 2012, from the lobby to the guest rooms. The only appreciable room difference is Swan's trademark Westin Heavenly Beds. With its 250-thread count sheets, pillow-top mattresses and down filled comforters, these adult cradles afford a comfy respite after a full day's mouseketeering. Otherwise, what's good for the mammal is good for the bird, both hotels offer 24-hour room service, complimentary transportation to the parks and a combined total of 17 restaurants and lounges.
The Swan and Dolphin fitness centers were upgraded in 2012, and since they both have their own list of equipment, compare them here and choose the option that suits you best. Management was not goofying around when equipping this complimentary and well-stocked exercise facility included in each hotel's $10/day amenity surcharge. Athletes can look forward to new, 9500 series Life Fitness cardio machines, approximately 400 pounds of free weights for benching and squatting, a good range of dumbbells and recently purchased stack-loaded weight stations.
When we see a body of water, our first thought is not, "Oh, how beautiful." Rather, we wonder, "Open water swimming?" Unfortunately, no stroking is allowed in this pond, despite its attractive sand beach and shallow water play area. Fellow agua amigos should not despair, 3 lanes of 33-yard outdoor bliss beckon just beyond the fitness center. Bottom stripes are not marked; but, lanes are divided by high-quality floating lines. Bring your own toys to kick or pull and a watch if you plan on intervals (no pace clock). And with Dolphin's separate kids' pool, your 3,000-yard session should afford a "moment" to yourself.
Note: Rates are often similar for these two stellar lodging options, if you find this to be the case, book the Swan for its plush bedding.
