For those travelers seeking a wallet-friendly accommodation near the center of Champs Elysees' action, Hotel California is a reasonable consideration. It's not upscale, impressive, or loaded with complimentary perks. Why recommend it? It's one of the few hotels in this prime area of Paris that offers rooms at affordable rates and the property sits a mere 50 yards from a Club Med health club.
Although the rooms are clean and average-sized by European standards, their appearance isn't as appealing as the hotel's website photos may have you believe. This is an older hotel and the room décor and style are more reminiscent of grandmother's house than Mom and Dad's. Guests with business tasks can tap into complimentary WiFi and those with late night cravings can order in-room dining 24/7.
Skip Hotel California's tiny on-site gym (there's a bike, stepper, rower, a multigym and some dumbbells) and head directly to the neighboring Club Med on Berri Street for your workout. 25 Euros will get you in the door.
We've heard some complaints about this property overbooking and shipping guests off to a sister property. To minimize this risk, try to check-in no later than 7pm, book your room with the hotel directly (versus discount websites, etc.) and call/email the day before you arrive to determine whether the hotel might exceed capacity.
