This studio has gone the extra mile to provide a distinctive yoga environment with beautiful hardwood floors, original stained glass windows, mosaic artwork and hand-painted murals on the walls and ceiling (corpse pose entertainment). With studios located on the 3rd and 4th floors of Center Siddhi Yoga, this studio may literally be the best kept secret in Philly. The Bikram series is taught here in varying formats (60, 75 & 90 minutes) as well as other yoga styles such as Yin, Vinyasa, Pyro, Pilates and more.
However, like many hot yoga studios, it can be difficult to find. Look for the Sherman Brothers Shoe store and head into the alcove toward their front door, take the door on your right (just before the shoe store entrance) and head up the stairs to the 3rd floor to check in. If you are staying downtown, walk to the studio, parking can be difficult in downtown Philadelphia; otherwise give your self plenty of time to find a parking space or bring a few extra dollars to park in the garage across the street.
Single visits are $20, towel rentals are $2 and water is available for purchase at $2. Mat rentals available. Locker rooms feature showers (with soap & shampoo dispensers), and unsecured storage for your personal effects. New students will want to show up at least fifteen minutes ahead of time to register. Check the website for class schedule and more information, but unless there is a holiday, 5-8 classes are offered per day M-F, the first starting at 6a. On weekends, four classes are offered per day, the first beginning at 9a.
ABOUT BIKRAM YOGA
Bikram Yoga welcomes beginners. This 90 minute class consists of 26 beginning postures and is conducted in a hot room (approx. 110 degrees) with, hopefully, high humidity. But don't be fooled into thinking beginning means easy - it doesn't! Iron men and couch potatoes, alike, have found themselves floored in "dead man's pose" just minutes into this challenging workout. You don't have to be strong or flexible or in excellent shape to do this yoga - you simply have to be willing. What we also really like about Bikram's is that every studio teaches the same sequence of postures so you always know you're going to get a full-body workout, a great benefit for travelers.
