Named after Duke University's popular Track and Cross Country coach, the Al Buehler trail is a 3.1 mile (5k) dirt single track that is popular with recreational runners and serves as the home course for Duke's cross country team. For years the team made do running across the golf course for their training, until university officials and Buehler got together and cut this meandering path through the dense woods bordering the fairways. The best place to pick it up is right in front of the Washington Duke Inn, parking is available. You may even catch Buehler himself running the rolling trail since he tries to jog it 5 days a week. Just call out, "Buehler, Buehler, Buehler." Sorry, we couldn't resist!
