Rancho San Rafael Park

1595 N. Sierra Street
Reno, NV 89503

Area: Downtown

Desert parks are notoriously difficult to upkeep and maintain (especially during the dry months, which are quite a few for this part of the country). So, don't expect Rancho San Rafael to wow you with huge trees, acres of green grass or babbling brooks and streams. We wouldn't make a special trip here, but if you're already near the park and looking for a short and safe daytime run, consider Rancho San Rafael.

The informal route through the park changes from crushed stone paths to dirt to sidewalks. In total, we guess you may be able to accrue 1.5 to 2 miles one-way along the trails/sidewalk, so a 3-4 mile out/back jaunt appears do-able. Take a look at our photos for more insight into the surroundings. Posted hours are 8am to 9pm (summer) (dawn to dusk otherwise), but we recommend running in daylight hours only.
Other attractions at the park include, an arboretum, the May Museum, and the Great Basin Adventure Amusement Park. (Don't think Six Flags; it's tiny, petting zoo, a log ride and a gold mine).
