As the closest hotel to the central train station, Manhattan Hotel is an easy walk for Rotterdam travelers coming by rail. Exit the station and the property is a convenient 200 yards away. In addition to its prime location, this newly-branded Marriott property also receives our top honors for its upscale accommodations and the best hotel gym in Rotterdam. For our money, it's the best place to stay in Rotterdam, not because the property is so spectacular but rather due to a lack of impressive competition.
All 231 rooms are outfitted in crisp-toned furnishings and carpet, refreshingly modern décor and pillowtop mattresses, a joy to crawl into after a long flight or day. Large windows provide generous natural light during the day and higher floors bestow city lights views at night. See the photos to the left for more detail. WiFi is available throughout the hotel (free when you book through the Marriott website) and room service is another perk.
The hotel's 24/7 fitness center is stocked with fairly new Technogym cardio machines, Concept2 rowers, and abdominal balls. Strength enthusiasts have options as well, including a 1-10kg dumbbell set (~2 to 20 lbs), a multigym and a lat-pulldown machine. It doesn't sound like much, but it's the best hotel gym Rotterdam has to offer. More specifically, the two treadmills are moderately worn, the upright bikes could be replaced, but the elliptical is the star. The ambiance inside is pleasant thanks to hardwood floors, ample lighting and a few windows.
Swimmers must look off-site to accrue some laps. David Lloyd has a pool (1 km away - €20/day), and just under 2 km away from the Sportfondsenbal Pool (€4/day).
Joggers should consider an outdoor trek, weather permitting. We recommend a southerly direction down a street called "Mauritsweg" which becomes Westersingel, then turn Right on Westzeedijk and follow to Het Park, a beautiful greenscape on the waterway with a perimeter walking/running path.
