Alto Velo Cycling is the premier club in Silicon Valley. They host a handful of rides throughout the week, for all abilities and speeds. Weekend rides leave from Peet's Coffee, which is the address supplied for their listing. Good folks and great riding, but be prepared for climbing.

Breathtaking views of marshland with trails that slither between, the Baylands is one of those run routes where you can lose yourself in nature. 15 miles of trails offer plenty of twists, turns and nature views.

A dirt trail runs through this former landfill and joggers/walkers are treated to an unusual combination of open-space and garbage dump remnants. It's not our favorite run venue, but still an option for those searching for traffic-free routes.

Although Equinox is Palo Alto's best health club, management makes it difficult for non-members to participate in the fun. The facility's admission policy restricts access to only those exercisers accompanying current members OR who are willing to pay a $50 day pass.

This well equipped health club is located in downtown Palo Alto. For those those staying in the city's heart and looking for an off-site sweat option, come here. The two-level facility is small, but it packs a powerful punch...that doesn't come cheap. It's $35 for the privilege.

Runners can partake in group runs that take place throughout the week and range in distance from 5 to 12 miles. The group splits up into varying paces, but 8-minute miles are very common.

This super, year-round, public lap pool facility in Palo Alto is a worthy option for your practice strokes. For $7.00 fresh-water friends are treated to 13 lanes of 25-yard swimming with all the trimmings: floating lane lines, bottom stripes and toys.

A runner hasn't really run at Stanford until he or she has done the dish loop. Very hilly, the loop rewards you at the top with spectacular view of the bay area; when visibility is good, you can see all the way to San Francisco.

Parallel to Sand Hill Road, this convenient walking/running/bicycling path offers a great route for those desiring a campus tour. Just watch out for cars entering/exiting the parking lots along the way.
