This property isn't too far down on the food chain from the Gold-rated Loews. The recently-renovated 487-room Westin strives to match the panache of its desert rival. We applaud the in-room mini fridges, full length mirrors, big soaking tubs, Heavenly beds and private balconies. The color palette will soothe; the 27 holes of golf will likely frustrate; the tennis courts, pool and fitness center will make you sweat; and the spa will reward you for it all.
The fitness center is housed in a private country club located behind of Westin's grounds. The complimentary workout facility is worthy of athletes' time. But similar to many country clubs, the golf courses and tennis courts are the meat on its bones. Weight machines, cardio equipment, and free weights are organized into 3 separate rooms. All areas are petite, but the gear is well spaced to avoid discomfort. The cardio machines are all recent purchases and most are the Life Fitness brand. There is also a Red Door spa on site to cater to your every desire.
The best feature at this Westin is the club's outdoor lap pool located adjacent to the fitness center. In the 83 degree year-round temperature, swimmers will enjoy 6-lanes of 25-yard lapping, complete with floating lane lines and bottom stripes. We did not see a pace clock on deck, so bring a wristwatch if you plan on swimming intervals. Kids will flock to the family pool complete with a 177 foot "Slidewinder waterslide".
A jogging route that starts at the hotel drive and runs through a residential area provides a welcome outdoor aerobic pursuit. While not as scenic as the Loews' Kolb Street course, it is enjoyable nonetheless.
