Do you bike to work? You are eligible for a tax benefit. But obtaining it takes some work.

Beginning this past January (2009), bicycle commuters "can" get a tax benefit of a stipulated amount per month for their pedaling. I use the quotes because securing the benefit takes some work. Even though the bill passed over eight months ago, there is still confusion and frustration about how to best implement the program.

Would you lose weight for 60 bucks? How about $100?

Maybe the question should be what would you do for $60?

Not much. Hmmm, tie my shoes, get out of bed, be nice, do the laundry -- basically what I normally do and just maybe a little more.

Exercise can help your backside in more ways than one

We all know that exercise is an important ingredient to a healthy lifestyle and combined with eating well, it will produce physical results.

But did you know that exercise can reduce your risk of colon cancer?

We didn't.

And we're not alone. According to news stories only about 15% of Americans have a clue that heart pumping is a colon cancer fighter. Lack of exercise is one of the HIGHEST risk factors for colon cancer, which is the third most common type of cancer! Wow.

Do Not Sign a Doctor Arbitration Agreement!

I visited a new doctor's office today, so I had to fill out all of the paperwork: Personal information, medical history, insurance information -- standard stuff. Included in the papers on the clipboard was a form that I haven't been asked to sign by other doctors, a "Physician-Patient Arbitration Agreement." In so many words, signing this "agreement" would forego my right to file a lawsuit against the doctor and his medical group should they make any mistake in my medical care--you know, the kind of mistake that could kill me.

Orange Juice - Not as Healthy as you Think

Many people start their (and/or their kid's) day with a tall glass of orange juice. "A great source of Vitamin C," is a common refrain heard by the masses. But, there's a dirty little secret that Tropicana, Minute Maid, and other orange juice purveyors hope drinkers continue to ignore...

Burning mouth follow-up. STOP ordering anything EXTRA HOT.

About 3 weeks ago I posted about my wake-up call at the Doc's office. It has been documented that drinking very hot beverages (over 158 degrees) is DANGEROUS and ups the probability of mouth cancer over 8 times! I

f you missed the previous post, click here to read it. I've been drinking wicked hot coffee and tea for YEARS...at least 8. So when I went to the specialist and learned that my mouth and uvula demonstrated serious damage, I was shocked.

I like it really hot and just discovered it can kill me.

I had a wake up call today; and I was politely reminded by my very nice looking 38 year old Doc that I'm not 22 years old anymore. "The body can't rebound as quickly."

It started two days ago. A sudden sharp pain in the throat which made swallowing difficult and produced a gag reflex. Coughing followed. And I mean hard, violent, get whatever it is in my throat out sort of coughing. And just like my now deceased cat Fogge, I got it. But instead of a nasty little hairball, mine was a blood ball.

Airlines Bike Policy -- Moving Target

EDITOR NOTE: ANOTHER POST WAS RECENTLY UPDATED: FIND IT HERE

With airline fees changing by the week, travelers have a lot of uncertainty regarding the total cost of their flights if bringing oversized and/or overweight luggage. Often airline personnel themselves don't even know the current policy and calling customer service can provide differing answers depending upon who you talk to.
