Choose Flying Lufthansa Over United to Germany

On my international trip two weeks ago, I flew on Lufthansa from Chicago to Dusseldorf and United from Frankfurt to Washington D.C.--each way in coach as our business travel budget does not support first or business class premiums.

The Lufthansa flight was far superior:

1) More Leg Room - every inch counts when on an airplane for 8+ hours (especially if you are 6ft. tall or more).

Need a close leg shave? Cyclists? Athletes? Women?

I take two showers every day. After my sweaty yoga class, I do a quick soap and rinse -- just to get the Bikram stink off. At the end of the day, before dinner, I shower again and shampoo, shave etc. I shave my legs daily. I think most women do. It's a pain. I prefer to do it at home because I have a nice spot to prop my foot. Good ergonomics are key to a good shave.

For the most part I have relied on disposable razors. Every now and then when I've been presented with a more expensive alternative via a freebie (at a race or in the mail), I haven't been impressed.

Do Not Sign a Doctor Arbitration Agreement!

I visited a new doctor's office today, so of course I had to fill out all of the paperwork: Personal information, medical history, insurance information -- the standard stuff.

Included in the papers on the clipboard was a form that I haven't been asked to sign by other doctors...a "Physician-Patient Arbitration Agreement." In so many words, signing this "agreement" would forego my right to file a lawsuit against the doctor and his medical group should they make any mistake in my medical care--you know, the kind of mistake that could kill me.

Strategies for cutting the cost of your yoga practice

We're all a bit more conscious of our spending habits lately, especially when it comes to "non-essential" items in the budget like dining out, shopping and vacations. But what about the things that add personal value to our lives (and health!), even though they may not be necessary for our immediate survival?

Take yoga, for instance. As a yoga teacher I believe that maintaining my personal practice is crucial to my effectiveness as an instructor.

The best Mothers Day gift, LESS STRESS

Mother's Day is almost here. Are you ready?

I speak from the perspective of having a 3 year old...so maybe some of this will hit home, or maybe not...I do think these are helpful hints to ANYONE giving something to ANY MOM ANYTIME.

What do I want? Less. Less to do. Less stress. Less to think about. Less guilt.

Yes, I wrote guilt. As a mom, "guilt" seems to leak into my thinking frequently. I always want to do more.

A Cure for Cold, Aching, Hurting Knees and Joints

With the recent time change, my 630am bike rides have become somewhat colder. Keeping my upper body warm is easy--layers, arm warmers, etc.--but until recently I struggled to keep my legs warm, especially during the first 30 minutes of the ride. The crisp morning air would pierce into my knees and create stiffness and an annoying (not severe) amount of knee pain.

I tried wearing leg warmers, which are helpful for those bitter cold winter days, but I find them restrictive and too warm after 30 minutes in the saddle when the temps are above 45F.

Frontier Airlines Bike Policy

With airline fees changing by the week, travelers have a lot of uncertainty regarding the total cost of their flights if bringing oversized and/or overweight luggage.

Sniffing out the best detergent to get your workout clothes stink free

I was recently preparing for a Bikram Yoga class and as I pulled my favorite yoga top over my head, I was disgusted by the olfactory offense emanating from my most beloved article of workout gear.

Do Swimmers Live Longer than Runners?

Results from a recent University of South Carolina study lead by Professor Steven N. Blair may create waves in the running community.

After thoroughly examining medical and physical activity data on 40,000 men (ages 20 to 90), Dr. Blair and his crew have concluded that in addition to having 53% lower mortality rates than their sedentary peers (no big surprise there), swimmers ALSO have a 49% lower mortality rate than runners! In other words, according to the findings, swimmers have a 49% better chance of staying alive this year than runners.
