The healthy vending machine challenge. Try for a happy medium.

This morning I read a WSJ article about getting healthy snacks from a vending machine.  The article was interesting and offered solutions for getting fruits and veggies into the hands of hungry workers, but I was frustrated.

After highlighting the technology that can make offering healthy fare via a vending machine a reality, the article continues to point out:

Hey Politicians, If You're Not An Athlete Don't Do Anything Athletic!

For the most part, we steer clear of political topics and figures, but when we learn of something athletically-related, it's difficult to bite our tounges.

My President is a Dork

Obama needs some help...some serious help!  Regardless of your political leanings and whether you think the economy is headed in the right or wrong direction, we all should want our Prez to look strong, like a leader, in-the-know, cool, even a little stiff is okay by me especially when meeting with other Heads of State.  But, OMG!!  What is he thinking--and more importantly what are his people thinking (and Michelle)--when they let him go out of the Martha's Vineyard compound on a bike ride wearing THAT (old baggy jeans, running shoes, collared shirt), putting on THAT (enormo

Get the junk out of school. Bill passes and we investigate.

Question: How much money does it take to up the health quotient of the food served in our nation's public schools and feed more low-income children?

Answer: $4.5 billion -- over 10 years.

Today, the Senate approved the "Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act" which seeks, among other things, to make food served in public schools more healthy.

Please Give Me Back Basic Gatorade

I?m annoyed with Gatorade. And, the slumping sales figures demonstrate that I?m not the only one. Ever since Gatorade felt the need to change its labeling and branding and add new products to the mix, sales have been heading downhill like the Boston Marathon course?or Obama?s job approval numbers?or mortgage rates?pick your analogy.

Pancakes and Cheesecake? Really. We need this?

Some people strive to improve their eating habits. Others don't. And many restaurants seek to appeal to the later group.

I read from the Glendale News Press today:

Bike Riding Turn Signals

I remember in Driver's Ed class learning the "official" bike turn signals: arm outstretched straight = left turn; arm in an "L" position (right angle at the elbow, fingers pointing to the sky) = right turn. BUT TRUST ME, most automobile drivers (and many bicyclists for that matter) are not going to remember what an "L" arm signal means! Clearly, some government official decided that the signal for right turn had to be different than left turn without considering the realities of the road.

A Healthy New Year Resolution: Kicking TV to the Curb

According to a 2009 Nielsen Report, Americans' television watching is at an all-time high...151 hours per month (21 hours per week or 3hrs/day).

This fact is especially disppointing since the quality of television programming has certainly diminished. Does it really improve your life to know who won Dancing with the Stars?

Starbucks Coffee at Airports

Is it just my imagination or does the java from the Starbucks airport locations taste bad? Sbux is not my first or even second choice, but it comes in nicely in third place. It's everywhere and it's super quick. Maybe that is part of the problem?

On Sunday I had a large Americano with sugar-free hazelnut syrup from Caribou Coffee. It was delicious.
