Seeking the truth about plastics for water bottles and food storage containers. Myth versus Reality

After the recent brouhaha over the SIGG water bottles, we are in search of some simple truths (or even easy to follow guidelines about plastics).

Are your eyes glazing over? If so, here?s the SUPER quick skinny.

1. Buy reusable plastic containers only or avoid plastic altogether.
2.

San Diegos Best Runs

I'm always amazed at the number of local San Diegan runners who have never heard of or experienced some of San Diego's best run routes. For example, my good friend David Smotrich, M.D., logs hundreds of miles each year in prep for the New York Marathon and yet he still hasn't trained once on the Lake Hodges Trail--San Diego County's best jogging trail in my opinion. I like variety in my training and have run throughout the county.

If traveling with your bike and shopping airfares, definitely consider the cost to ship your bike as part of your overall ticket price. Also check this updated post.

Always Wear Seatbelts on Flights

As if we needed additional evidence why wearing a seatbelt at ALL times on an airplane is extremely important (except when using the lavatory), this headline grabbed my attention:

Choose Flying Lufthansa Over United to Germany

On my international trip two weeks ago, I flew on Lufthansa from Chicago to Dusseldorf and United from Frankfurt to Washington D.C.--each way in coach as our business travel budget does not support first or business class premiums.

The Lufthansa flight was far superior:

1) More Leg Room - every inch counts when on an airplane for 8+ hours (especially if you are 6ft. tall or more).

Would you lose weight for 60 bucks? How about $100?

Maybe the question should be what would you do for $60?

Not much. Hmmm, tie my shoes, get out of bed, be nice, do the laundry -- basically what I normally do and just maybe a little more.

Do you ride a stationary bike when you exercise?

I ride an upright stationary bike often.

I can read and it's a nice way to, somewhat, sit still and focus for 30 minutes. I don't think I'd ever make it through the newspaper without my cycle. And when I travel, I also like to ride. And it completely annoys me that at most hotel fitness centers and health clubs, the pedal straps are missing.

Am I alone on this?

I just posted the same question on a cycling forum and I'll be curious if others share my frustration.

Do Not Sign a Doctor Arbitration Agreement!

I visited a new doctor's office today, so I had to fill out all of the paperwork: Personal information, medical history, insurance information -- standard stuff. Included in the papers on the clipboard was a form that I haven't been asked to sign by other doctors, a "Physician-Patient Arbitration Agreement." In so many words, signing this "agreement" would forego my right to file a lawsuit against the doctor and his medical group should they make any mistake in my medical care--you know, the kind of mistake that could kill me.
