NFLs Tony Gonzalez Goes Vegan!?

I have a few friends that abide by a vegan diet -- i.e., no consumption of animal products or byproducts. Vegan is not an easy choice when you seriously consider how many regularly available foods are prohibited. No chicken, no fish, no honey, etc. And vegans go a step further than vegetarians by also eschewing dairy and eggs (vegetarians drink milk and covet their scrambles).

When Did the NFL Become a Reality Show?

This blog strays from our usual healthy lifestyle content at AthleticMindedTraveler.com, but I have to vent my frustration at the sports writers and TV personalities across the country--so bear with me!

Ever since the NFL's San Diego Chargers beat the Indianapolis Colts last weekend, I've heard/read nothing from the various media channels but whining and complaining. It seems that the entire country's sports experts wanted to see the Patriots play the Colts in this weekend's AFC Championship game. Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady; Defending Super Bowl Champs vs.

Another Use for Your Bike Pump

Walking out the front door this morning, I noticed our car had a flat tire. The nearest gas station to our house with an air pump is about two miles away. The closest Discount Tire shop is located approximately four miles from our house.

Our Favorite Things (i.e. Gift Ideas)

It's Christmas Season don't you know? Oprah has her "favorite things" and now it's time for AthleticMindedTraveler's Favorite Things. We don't plug products unless we truly use and enjoy them ourselves.

Do not Fret the Extra Helping of Stuffing

During last year's Super Bowl we blogged about how holidays (and the Superbowl) are meant to enjoy family, friends and FOOD!! With Thanksgiving already here, we thought it would be good to remind our fellow athletic-minded folk that it's okay to indulge once in a while--especially on special occasions.

Non-smokers and environmentalists will like this

We've commented in the past about how different municipalities across the country are banning smoking in public areas. Many hotels too have outlawed the noxious stuff. This is all good news. But what still bugs us are the number of "butts" littering streets, parks, beaches, and other public areas.

HELLLOOOOOO. It's littering for goodness sake! What is the deal?

In San Diego play, exercise and FUN

In San Diego we are blessed with good weather year-round. Even when it's "bad" it's still pretty darn good, especially compared to many other cities across the U.S. When we moved here from Chicago, we happily left behind winter's brutal chill and summer's unrelenting humidity...

But then mother nature delivers a wallop and forces us to take note of what we've got and how quickly it can change. Since Monday we've been glued to the TV and have remained indoors (save going to and from the car). We're very lucky. We did not need to evacuate.

For your travel headache

If you watch any TV, you have undoubtedly been blasted by a commercial for HeadOn--a topical headache remedy. HEAD ON APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD -- repeat, repeat and repeat.

Anyway, the homeopathic medication may be just the thing for those who eschew pill popping. And since you simply apply it to your forehead, you don't need agua or any other liquid beverage--making it perfect for travel.

AMTs Take on the New Southwest Boarding Policy

Three cheers for open seating!! We previously posted about how we hoped Southwest would not change their A, B, C boarding because we've perfected how to work the system.

A Numbers Game
Now, Southwest has announced that only a slight modification will be made to the notorious "cattle call". A, B, and C boarding passes will still be issued. However, passengers will now receive a number as well as a letter when printing their boarding pass--a sub-set of the letter categories, if you will.

Jogging Strollers are Overrated

Upon the birth of my now 14-month old daughter, I couldn't wait to take her out for a run with Daddy in a new jogging stroller. Within a month or two of her birth, I spent hours online researching the various brands and features, thought about and planned the best and least bumpy route to explore, and imagined how special the bonding would be between us.

Whoops.

Of all the baby items purchased, I think the jogging stroller has been the least utilized.
