Five Vegan Eats You Should Try

It was the documentary Forks Over Knives (2011) along with my compassion for all animals that inspired my vegan journey.  I was already a practicing pescatarian, so the transition to becoming vegan was smooth.  And, with so many appetizing vegan food options, I never feel I sacrifice nutrition nor taste.  Below you will find a handful of my favorite savory vegan eats and a bonus recipe! Try them...vegan or omnivore...

Should you be eating meat? And what about brain shrinkage?

I rarely eat red meat.

Pork tenderloin graces my plate a couple of times a month, but aside from that, I prefer poultry, seafood, and "mock" proteins. I'm not even sure why I eschew the red stuff. Maybe it's the look of it, or the hangover from the Mad Cow scare, or the fact that much of it seems to be of low quality...or that if I'm going to pay up, I want fish.

There is a definite gross out factor for me, but that is changing.

FIRST, QUALITY COUNTS BIG TIME.

Downer Cows and Vegan Restaurants

A recent beef recall, the largest in US history, is making news. The offending plant, Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing in Chino, CA, is accused of slaughtering "downer" cows -- bovine that can't walk or stand on their own. In plain English, meat from sick and unhealthy cows made it to the food supply in a big way, 143 million pounds type of way--and nearly all the beef is believed to have already been consumed.

Hot Diggity Dog

The baseball season is underway. The Oregon Beavers just won the college world series for the second year in a row (personal interest-yipppeee!), and ballparks across the country are teaming with fans--hungry fans!
