Only a half-mile from the runways, this Doubletree should be the first choice for athletic-minded travelers desiring a convenient airport hotel, especially if the nightly rates are comparable to all other nearby properties.
Doubletree earns our "Gold" for several reasons. First and foremost, the bright and floor-to-ceiling windowed second floor gym is phenomenal. Precor's high quality equipment forms two long lines through the narrow workout room. All of the cardio machines have personal televisions attached to help the exercise minutes fly by. And, we definitely appreciate the multiple strength options. Guests can muscle pump with stack-loaded weight stations or 5-50 lbs. dumbbells. Finally, ab balls and stretch cords round out a complete fitness experience.
Second, runners can pick up the Guadalupe River Trail within a quarter-mile of Doubletree's front door (head toward the airport). About the only people excluded from the on-site exercise options are lap swimmers. Doubletree's outdoor octagon pool is strictly leisure. Fortunately, 24 Hour Fitness Super Sport houses an indoor 4-lane x 25-yard lapper. Unfortunately, admission privileges cost $25/day (less than 5-minute drive).
Finally, Doubletree impresses even beyond the fitness fun with spacious 450 square-foot rooms, WiFi (fee applies), a lobby-located UPS store, real-time flight information screens, a sushi/sake bar and an espresso bar serving Starbucks java.
